biography
Realizing a passion for music as a child, Joel began developing and honing his skills as a vocalist and song writer at a young age. In high school Joel was introduced to dj arts and digital music production. Influenced by bands like Boyz II Men and Jodeci, he started a vocal quartet called Unique. In 1997 Unique signed with Detroit upstart label Blacklisted Records and soon after released their debut single "How may I do u", which was also featured on Warner/Beat Factory's Groove Essentials. The following year Unique was nominated for a Juno and won a Canadian Urban Music Award for best R&B group.
In 2000, Unique parted ways with Blacklisted Records and changed their name to The Show. They signed a new deal with Inside Music/EMI in 2003. Collectively, they wrote and produced their debut album entitled Debt, Sweat and Tears which was released in 2004. Two years later the band was dissolved due to directional and creative differences.
Joel immediately began establishing his solo career as an artist as well as a song writer and producer for others. Chalking up feature, song writing and production credits for various artists in different genres such as Us Crew, Shane Nice, Reasun (Cryogenix) and Cali songstress Taleen. Joel added movie placements to his repertoire, landing 6 songs in the feature film 'Animal 2' starring Ving Rhames. He also co wrote, featured (as Swollen Knuckles) and produced a parody track entitled 'Vintage Honey Style' for Adam Sandlers' Grandma's Boys movie which was featured on Spike TV's website.
In 2011, Joel was introduced to gaming heavy weight Navid Khonsari (Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne) in regards to music placement for the Ink Stories production "1979". This spawned an intense love affair with sound design which inspired Joel to go back to school. In 2012 he enrolled in Trebas Institutes' Audio Engineering and Technology program. Now nearing completion, Joel is excited to embark on new chapter in his career and gain experience in the gaming industry.
